Their mission is to promote access, openness, and transparency of public information, to promote Free and Opensource Software, and to work with individuals, organizations, and governmental entities in these endeavors.
During the Summer of 2010, the Lab for Technological Literacy at RIT, with a research grant from RIT's provost's office, entered into an open collaboration to give students an opportunity to work with CIVX's development team and Advisory Board, to improve their website and public information system, http://beta.civx.us.
